Player Props Guide

A player prop is a bet on an individual player's statistical performance; passing yards, points, strikeouts, shots on goal; independent of the game's winner. Props are the fastest-growing market in U.S. sports betting and now make up roughly 25–30% of all bets placed in Michigan.

How player props work

The sportsbook posts a line; for example, Cade Cunningham over/under 24.5 points. You bet whether the player will exceed (over) or fall short of (under) that number. Most main-line props are priced near -110 on each side, but alt lines (e.g. over 30.5 points) carry plus-money payouts.

Prop markets by sport

SportCommon prop markets
NFLPassing yards, rushing yards, receptions, anytime TD, longest reception, sacks
NBAPoints, rebounds, assists, threes made, double-double, points + rebounds + assists (PRA)
MLBStrikeouts, hits, total bases, home runs, RBIs, pitcher outs recorded
NHLShots on goal, goals, assists, points, goalie saves, time on ice
PGATop-5/10/20 finish, head-to-head matchup, made/missed cut, first-round leader
UFCMethod of victory, fight to go the distance, round betting, total significant strikes

Best Michigan sportsbooks for player props

  • FanDuel; deepest NFL and NBA prop boards, sharpest alt-line pricing
  • DraftKings; strong DFS-heritage prop coverage, daily prop boost tokens
  • BetMGM; best for hockey and soccer props
  • Caesars; competitive on golf and tennis player props
  • ESPN BET; props integrated with ESPN news feeds inside the app

Combining props into same-game parlays

Player props are the building blocks of most same-game parlays (SGPs). For example: Lions to win + Goff over 250 passing yards + St. Brown anytime TD. Because the legs are correlated, sportsbooks price SGPs below a true parlay multiplier. See our parlay guide for detail.

Michigan college player prop note

Michigan permits college sports betting, but per NCAA guidance some sportsbooks have voluntarily removed individual collegiate athlete props. Verify availability inside your sportsbook of choice for Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans player markets before locking a bet.

Risk and bankroll

Prop markets are typically lower-limit than core spread/moneyline markets. They can also move quickly on injury news. Limit prop wager size to a small fraction of your overall bankroll; most professional bettors treat props as variance plays, not core volume.
